What Is Anadrol-50?
Anadrol-50 (oxymetholone) is an anabolic steroid used to treat certain types of anemia (lack of red blood cells), including aplastic anemia, myelofibrosis, or hypoplastic anemia caused by chemotherapy. Anadrol-50 is available in generic form.
What Are Side Effects of Anadrol-5o?
Common side effects of Anadrol-50 include:
- diarrhea,
- excitation,
- restlessness,
- trouble sleeping (insomnia), or
- breast swelling in men.
Women taking Anadrol-50 may develop male characteristics, which could be irreversible if treatment is continued. Tell your doctor if you notice increased acne, changes in menstrual periods, a hoarse or deepened voice, male pattern baldness or hair growth (such as on the chin or chest), an enlarged clitoris, or changes in your sex drive while taking Anadrol-5o. Tell your doctor if you have serious side effects of Anadrol-5o including:
- mental/mood changes,
- swelling of the ankles or feet,
- unusual or rapid weight gain,
- trouble breathing,
- decreased or increased interest in sex, or
- new or worsening acne.
Dosage for Anadrol-50
The recommended daily dose of Anadrol-5o in children and adults is 1-5 mg/kg body weight per day. The usual effective dose is 1-2 mg/kg/day but higher doses may be required, and the dose is individualized. The response is not often immediate, and three to six months should be given.
What Drugs, Substances, or Supplements Interact with Anadrol-50?
Anadrol-50 may interact with blood thinners oral insulin or diabetes medication. There may be other drugs that can interact with Anadrol-5o. Tell your doctor about all your prescription and over-the-counter medications and supplements you are taking.
Anadrol-50 During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Anadrol-5o must not be used during pregnancy due to the risk of harm to a fetus. It is recommended that women of childbearing age use birth control while taking this drug. It is not known whether this drug passes into breast milk. Due to the potential harm to a nursing infant, breastfeeding is not recommended.

ANADROL® (oxymetholone) Tablets for oral administration each contain 50 mg of the steroid oxymetholone, a potent anabolic and androgenic drug.
The chemical name for oxymetholone is 17β-hydroxy-2-(hydroxymethylene)-17-methyl-5α-androstan-3-one. The structural formula is:

Uses for Anadrol-50
ANADROL Tablets is indicated in the treatment of anemias caused by deficient red cell production. Acquired aplastic anemia, congenital aplastic anemia, myelofibrosis, and hypoplastic anemias due to the administration of myelotoxic drugs often respond.
ANADROL Tablets should not replace other supportive measures such as transfusion, correction of iron, folic acid, vitamin B12 or pyridoxine deficiency, antibacterial therapy, and the appropriate use of corticosteroids.
Dosage for Anadrol-50
The recommended daily dose in children and adults is 1-5 mg/kg body weight per day. The usual effective dose is 1-2 mg/kg/day but higher doses may be required, and the dose should be individualized. The response is not often immediate, and a minimum trial of three to six months should be given. Following remission, some patients may be maintained without the drug; others may be maintained on an established lower daily dosage. A continued maintenance dose is usually necessary in patients with congenital aplastic anemia
